"Sabantui is something like a Brazilian carnival!"

About 600 participants of the BRICS Games from about 40 countries, including athletes and members of delegations, attended the traditional Tatarstan holiday Sabantui, which was held in the settlement of Mirny.

Rustam Minnikhanov, Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan, Igor Levitin, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, Mansur Yavash, Mayor of Ankara, the capital of Turkey, and Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of Kazan, also attended the event. They congratulated the participants on the completion of the Games in Kazan.

Rustam Minnikhanov thanked the country's leadership for their trust to hold such a large-scale sporting event in Kazan.

"Our most favorite holiday Sabantui is held simultaneously with the conclusion of the BRICS Games. Holding the Games in Tatarstan shows the enormous trust of the Russian leadership. Unfortunately, the competition has come to an end. Thank you to all the participants!" - said Rustam Minnikhanov.

At Sabantui, guests were treated to a festive concert with the participation of famous artists of Tatarstan, a performance by a folk instrument orchestra, as well as a theatricalized prologue, thanks to which they were able to get better acquainted with the history of the holiday and the culture of the Republic. The venue also hosted national koresh wrestling competitions with the participation of Tatarstan's best batyrs, tug-of-war competitions, as well as folk games and various master classes.

"This was my fifth time in Russia, but the first time I attended Sabantui. It was interesting to get to know the culture of Tatarstan. Everything is very well organized and what Sabantui is like a Brazilian carnival. At the BRICS Games I made a lot of friends, both from Russia and from other countries. Brazil and Russia are the first letters in the BRICS acronym. I hope that these Games will unite our countries even stronger," said Renato, manager of the Brazilian soccer team.

In total, almost 3000 athletes from 84 countries competed at the BRICS Games, and including officials there were 4200 participants. Medals in 25 sports were awarded in Kazan, while champions in two more sports - breaking and acrobatic rock 'n' roll - will be determined in Moscow on June 23-25.

"The main thing is that all of us - both athletes and spectators - enjoyed ourselves. This was a new project, there have never been competitions of this rank within BRICS. We set the bar incredibly high. Many athletes compare the Games in terms of the level of preparation to the Olympics. There is a great future for this format. Our colleagues from Brazil said that it will be a bit difficult for them at the next Games, but we will help them," said Vladimir Leonov, Minister of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan. "The meeting of the BRICS sports ministers was productive, documents were adopted on which we will work further. We, Russia and Tatarstan, always welcome our guests".
