“At the BRICS Games, sport is a tool to foster friendship”

Meeting of the Heads of Delegation to compete at the BRICS Games in June 2024 has begun in Kazan. Representatives of 35 countries are taking part in the meeting. Six delegations have arrived in Kazan, while the rest can join the meeting online.

The heads of the delegation are going to meet with the BRICS Games Organising Committee, discuss the sports programme of the competition, visa support, services, accreditation and registration, as well as look at the venues and infrastructure to be used at the tournament.

“This is the first time this kind of meeting is held before the BRICS Games. We are taking these Games up to the level of high-profile international tournaments. For three days, we will describe the services, show the venues and answer the questions of those coming to Kazan as participants of the BRICS Games. The heads of delegation will be able to get all the information they need. Many of them have not been to Tatarstan, and now they can see everything first hand” said Vladimir Leonov, Minister of Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan.

The Minister of Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan mentioned that the BRICS Games would present awards in more than 25 sports. The sports programme will be finally approved in May.

“We are willing to host the BRICS Games up the highest standards. This is our task, and we have every opportunity to do it. The best ones will compete at the level of the Russian national team at the BRICS Games in Kazan. We have agreed with the top performers of the national team in almost all sports” emphasized Vladimir Leonov.

The representatives of the delegations of Afghanistan, Bahrain, Venezuela, Congo, UAE and the Republic of Srpska arrived in Kazan to attend the meeting.

“Thank you very much for the chance to come to Kazan for the Meeting of the Heads of Delegation of the countries competing at the BRICS Games. Strengthening relations between Russia and Venezuela comes first for us, and sport is a tool to foster our friendship. Latin American countries would like to speak out for peace through sports in the global sports arena. Venezuela is going to compete in 9 disciplines at the BRICS Games and a team of 40-45 athletes will come to Kazan” said Pablo Alfonso Yustiz Araujo, Venezuelan Deputy Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs.
