Track and field and basketball competitions begin at the BRICS Games

The third day of the BRICS Games in Kazan will feature 11 sports.
Athletics
On June 15, athletics competitions begin at the Central Stadium in Kazan. Over two days athletes will distribute 42 sets of medals among themselves. Participants from Russia, Abkhazia, Belarus, Brazil, Burkina Faso, India, China, South Africa, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Ethiopia and Eritrea will take to the start line.
The competitions include the following types of programs for men and women: 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1500 m, 5000 m; 4x100 m and 4x400 m relay races, 110 m, 400 m hurdles; 3000 m hurdles; 10000 m race walk; high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump; discus, hammer, javelin and shot put. In addition, men will compete in the decathlon, women - in the heptathlon.
The Russian national track and field team at the BRICS Games will include world champions Sergey Shubenkov and Danil Lysenko, Olympic silver medalist Elena Sokolova, world championship silver medalists Ekaterina Koneva and Valery Pronkin, winners of Russian championships Polina Knoroz, Vladimir Nikitin, Maxim Yakushev and other prominent athletes.
Basketball Tournament
The BRICS Games will kick off the Basketball Doubles tournament. This is a new discipline, which was first successfully tested at the international multi-sport tournament "Games of the Future" in February-March 2024 in Kazan. Each basketball doubleheader match consists of two stages - interactive (digital) and functional (physical). First, the players compete in a basketball simulator, and then go to a real court and play in a 2x2 format. At the same time, the score that the teams gained in the digital stage is transferred to the physical stage - that is, it will be important for athletes to show themselves both with a joystick in their hands and on the court.
The competition will last four days. Teams from 12 countries, including Russia, Brazil, Cuba, Republica Srpska, Vietnam, UAE and others, will take part. The first match will start on June 15 at 10:30.
The hosts of the tournament will be represented by the leading players of the national 3x3 basketball team - Konstantin Grekov, Yuri Bespalov, Alexander Stepanov, as well as Vladislav Meleshkin, the champion and MVP of the Fijital Basketball Tournament at the "Games of the Future".
Rowing
On the third day of rowing competitions six sets of awards will be played. At 10:00 at the Rowing Sports Center will start semifinal heats for pair doubles in regular and lightweight, as well as quadruples without a helmsman among men and women. Athletes from Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, India, Serbia, Iran, Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates will take part in them.
At 15:00 the best teams will determine the champions in their disciplines.
Karate
On the final day of karate competitions at the BRICS Games six sets of medals will be played. The program will start at 10.00 with preliminary and consolation performances in "Kata" for men. This will be followed by preliminary bouts for women (61, 68 and over 68 kg) and men (84 and over 84 kg). At 16:30, the third-place bouts will take place and at 18:30 the final bouts will begin.
Weightlifting
The final day of the weightlifting competitions of the BRICS Games will be held at the Tulpar Sports Complex on Saturday. Participants will play for medals in three weight categories.
In the men's category there will be competitions in the weight category up to 102 kilograms, as well as in the category - over 102 kilograms. In the women's final set of awards will be played in the weight category over 81 kilograms.
Among the participants of the competitions are European champion Alexei Lovchev, winners of European championships Egor Klimonov, Georgy Kuptsov (all from Russia), athletes from the Republic of Belarus, Iran, Venezuela, UAE.
Wushu
The third day of wushu competitions at the BRICS Games will be full of interesting fights. At 10:00 at the TATNEFT Arena semifinal fights for women (48, 56, 65 and 70 kg) and men (52, 56, 60, 65, 75 and 85 kg) will start. And at 16:00 the drawing of six sets of awards will begin: women will determine champions in taijiquan, qianshu and changquan styles, and men - in jianshu, daoshu and nangun.
Table Tennis
The men's and women's singles table tennis competitions begin Saturday at the Boxing and Table Tennis Center.
Russia will be represented by Maxim Grebnev, Kirill Skachkov, Nikita Artemenko, Vladimir Sidorenko and Lev Katsman in the men's tournament, and Elizabeth Abrahamyan, Maria Tailakova, Vlada Voronina, Yana Noskova and Polina Mikhailova in the women's tournament.
Their opponents will be tennis players from China, India, Iran, Pakistan, Bahrain, Belarus, Armenia and other countries of the world.
Group stage matches in singles will start at 10:00. And at 17:40 the matches of 1/16 finals in men's and women's singles will start.
Synchronized swimming
Two final sets of awards will be played in synchronized swimming. The Palace of Aquatics will host performances of mixed duets and groups (free program). Athletes from Uzbekistan, Russia, Thailand, Kazakhstan, DPRK and Belarus will compete for medals. The duets will start at 10.00, and groups - at 15.00.
Artistic Gymnastics
Five sets of medals in individual events will be awarded in artistic gymnastics. Men will perform exercises on the bar, parallel bars and vaulting, and women - exercises on the balance beam and floor exercises. The beginning of performances, which will be held in the Gymnastics Center - 15.00.
Nikita Nagorny, Daniel Marinov, Sergey Naidin, Anna Kalmykova, Leila Vasilyeva (all Russia), Egor Sharamkov and Elena Titovets (both - Republic of Belarus), as well as athletes from Kazakhstan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, Turkey and other countries will take part in the competition.
Badminton
The BRICS Badminton Games in men's and women's badminton continue at the Badminton Center.
In the morning from 10.00 a.m. games in subgroups in doubles and mixed doubles up to ½ finals matches will be held, and at 15.00 a.m. semifinal matches in all divisions of the Games, including singles, will begin.
In total, the participants will play 5 sets of awards, and the first final matches will be held this Sunday, June 16.
Tennis
The Kazan Tennis Academy will host the group stage matches of the team tournament in men's and women's singles.
The teams of Russia, Tajikistan, India, Uzbekistan, Republic of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, Pakistan and Republic of Srpska are participating in the women's tournament.
For men, the teams of Russia, the Republic of Belarus, India, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan and the Republic of Abkhazia are competing for medals.
The group stage will last until June 16 inclusive, and then the final games within the playoffs will start. The start of matches on Saturday — 10.00.

After the artistic gymnastics competition there will be an autograph session with Olympic champion Nikita Nagorny and the winner of the BRICS Games in individual all-around competition Daniel Marinov. The meeting will take place at the Gymnastics Center.
At 18.00 the presentation of a film about synchronized swimming by three-time Olympic champion Maria Kiseleva will take place at the MICE (Universiade Village).
At 8:30 p.m. the BRICS Games Ambassador Alina Zagitova's press approach will take place at the Central Stadium. She will also meet volunteers at the Gymnastics Center (16.50) and will visit Wushu competitions at the Tatneft Arena (17.30).
