Dmitry Chernyshenko and Igor Levitin held a meeting of the Organising Committee for the BRICS Sports Games 2024

Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, and Igor Levitin, Aide to the President of Russia, held a meeting of the Organising Committee for the BRICS Sports Games 2024 in Kazan. The meeting resulted in the approval of the list of sport disciplines and competition venues along with the official logo of the tournament.

Deputy Prime Minister noted the strategic importance of the upcoming tournament for the Russian Federation.

“Russia chairs the BRICS in 2024, and the interstate format of BRICS Sports Games will make it possible to hold them at a top level and provide equal opportunities for all participants. Russia is advancing the BRICS Games to a whole new level: competitions in 29 sports, popular in the alliance countries, are scheduled. We see a positive feedback from the participating countries, which do not pander to Western functionaries.

The innovative Games of the Future start in Kazan in a month, and all arrangements continue as planned. I have no doubt that this tradition will remain in preparation for the BRICS Games. It is important to ensure the readiness of all venues and their compliance with all requirements,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

“Tatarstan has repeatedly hosted major international scale events. Our rich experience allows us to take responsibility for holding events of any level and format. The Republic has all the necessary resources to realise this project. I can assure you that we will make every effort to see that the Games are held at a high organisational level, and we will fulfil all our obligations,” emphasised Rustam Minnikhanov, Rais (Head) of the Republic of Tatarstan.

“We have decided to hold the BRICS Games 2024 in an open format following our initiative and in agreement with our colleagues from the BRICS countries. All members of the alliance adhere to the principles of equal and non-discriminatory admission; we provide equal opportunities for athletes from all countries to freely participate in the tournament without any sanctions and restrictions, march under the flag of their own country, and sing the anthem of a winning country. We expect about 5,000 athletes from more than 60 countries to participate in the BRICS Games in Kazan. The preparations are based on the developed and agreed Plan of Events, which includes ensuring the readiness of all infrastructure and services, the arrangement of cultural and volunteer programmes, as well as sanitary and anti-epidemic measures. One of the key areas is to ensure the safety of participants and guests of the event, this has always been our priority. We look forward to seeing everyone at the BRICS Sports Games 2024 in Kazan,” said Oleg Matytsin, Minister of Sport.

The Games will take place from 11 June to 23 June, 2024. The Games Sports Programme includes competitions in 29 sports most popular in the BRICS countries: boxing, breaking, beach volleyball, beach handball, canoe sprint, rowing, judo, karate, koresh belt wrestling, belt wrestling, athletics, table tennis, swimming, diving, sambo, artistic swimming, skateboarding, wrestling, artistic gymnastics, tennis, wushu, fencing, basketball double-event, football double-event, rhythmic gymnastics, chess, weightlifting, badminton, and equestrian sports.
