Over 40 athletes from Venezuela flew to Kazan to participate in the BRICS Games

Participants of the upcoming BRICS Games 2024 keep arriving in Kazan. A large delegation from Venezuela landed in the capital city of Tatarstan today. The team consists of 41 athletes. The Venezuelan team will participate in 12 sports of the BRICS Games, including chess, weightlifting, swimming, karate, diving, boxing, fencing, and others.

We are proud that Venezuelan athletes get to represent their country at the BRICS Games. We put our hopes in the karate and phygital football competitions. It stands to reason that the BRICS Games held in Kazan are aimed at uniting many countries and establishing friendship among us. And, of course, this is a great chance for athletes to show their abilities to the best advantage”, said Pablo Yustiz, the Head of the Venezuelan delegation at the BRICS Games.

Venezuela will be represented at the BRICS Games by Yorgelis Salazar, world ranking leader in karate in the 50 kg weight category.

I have been extensively preparing for these Games, and last week I won a tournament in Morocco. I am a little tired, but still determined to claim another victory in Kazan. There will be serious competition at the BRICS Games. Although I am the ranking leader, Kazan will feature top-level athletes from Turkey, Russia, Egypt, and Kazakhstan. I already visited Russia in 2022 for the tournament in Moscow, but I did not become the first then. I hope that I will be able to win in Kazan!” said the athlete.

Venezuelan team became the best in the Phygital Football qualifying tournament at the Games of the Future in Kazan in February, and they aim to emulate their success at the BRICS Games.

This is a great opportunity for all the athletes from Venezuela to prove ourselves to the world. We have been preparing for the BRICS Games for a very long time, honing our teamwork for over three months. We will make every effort to achieve our goal: to win medals at the Games and bring joy to the people of Venezuela! I am confident that we will perform well. I missed the Games of the Future, but many players from our team participated”, said Daniel Molina, player of the Venezuelan national phygital football team.

Kazan will welcome a few other large delegations of the BRICS Games participants in the coming days according to Vladimir Leonov, Minister of Sport of the Republic of Tatarstan. All venues are ready to host the competitions.

The BRICS Games will be held in Kazan from 12 to 23 June. About 5,000 athletes from 97 countries are expected to participate. Tickets for the Games can be purchased on the BRICS Games official website or on kassir.ru, the tournament’s official partner.
